Market Breadth

How wide the trend is. A market where eight coins in ten hold their long-term average is a different market from one a single coin is carrying — breadth is the number that tells the two apart.

  • What is crypto market breadth?

Breadth counts how many coins close above their 50-day moving average and how many below, then turns the two into one ratio: the share of measurable coins in a medium-term uptrend. The 50-day average turns in days rather than weeks, yet it is still an average of fifty daily closes, not a count of the day’s winners. A coin whose 50-day average does not exist yet is left out of both sides, so the ratio is never diluted by missing history. The window follows the horizon you pick: short term counts the 50-day average, long term the 200-day one.

  • Is market breadth a trading signal?

On its own, no — it describes the market, it does not time it. Breadth works as confirmation: a rally in which fewer than half of the coins hold their long-term average is narrow and historically fragile, while a market in which more than three quarters sit below it is the washout that often precedes a turn. Use it as context for a plan you already have. Nothing here is investment advice.

  • How often does the breadth reading update?

Once a day, on a fixed UTC grid, from the same daily candles the indicator panels use. The measure reads closed daily candles, so it only moves at the daily close and a faster cadence would just repeat the previous reading; the history list keeps six weeks of measurements.
