Candlestick Patterns
What the candles themselves are drawing. Indicators average the closes; a pattern reads the shape of the bar — where the body sits, how long the wick is, whether today swallowed yesterday — and that is the first thing anyone looking at a chart actually sees.
What is a candlestick pattern?
A shape formed by one to three candles that traders read as a hint about the next move: a hammer is a long lower wick after a fall, an engulfing candle is a body that swallows the previous one, a morning star is a big down bar, a hesitant bar and a big up bar in a row. The shape is only half of it — the same candle means one thing at the bottom of a decline and another in the middle of a rally, so the context is part of every definition here.
Is a candlestick pattern a buy or sell signal on its own?
No. A pattern is a hint about where a move may be losing steam, not a plan. On this site it never decides a signal by itself: it nudges the technical score by a few points, and a pattern pointing against a setup counts as a risk reason instead. Trade a pattern only as confirmation of a plan you already have. Nothing here is investment advice.
